A Long Expected Celebration: Kirandur Live Demo and Second Birthday

Hail, friends! Now, I know what you've all come for. You want to know when the demo goes live. You want to know what you can do in said demo. And we'll get to that. But I have some more important things to talk about, and they're things you've heard before. But I need you to indulge me for a second.

It's been two years of The Kuloran Players that began with baby steps and has somehow progressed into a full on baby run, which is deceptively fast. Seriously, I'm pretty sure babies can outrun some adults. They could certainly outrun me. But the point is, we've come a long way and accomplished a lot, and I'm incredibly proud of every single one of my team members, those who have been here since day one, and those who have joined us only recently. A show is only as good as its actors, and I've got to say that we have the best actors in the entire world. I couldn't ask for better.

This is a whirlwind for me, too. In an age where everyone is trying to make their voice heard, I'm no different, and I feel as though my voice is reaching places I didn't think it could. Little bits here, small parts there, and suddenly people I've never even met are asking me about Kirandur, and that, I think, is the best part of doing this. I always wanted to bring people together, and I'm honored that not only an entire team of creators and developers but the community has rallied behind me. I hope that, with this little piece we're showing you, you'll all feel your trust has been well-placed. This is just a step on a yet longer road, but it's a big one, and I can see its end on the horizon. So, as the horses pick up their pace and the sounds of a world fill my ears, I pause to tell you... thank you. Two words I will have worn down when all is said and done, but they'll never lose their sincerity. Thank you all. Thank you for believing in me, trusting me, and, most importantly, being here. Now, onward!

To get you on this road with me, you'll need to know how and when you can join us in Kirandur. Well, I'm excited to announce that Kirandur's live demo launches on Saturday August 22nd at 12 PM eastern time for the public, free of charge, and 2 days earlier, on the 20th, for all our paid patreon supporters. If you're not a Patreon member yet, I would deeply appreciate it if you joined us for early access at our Patreon page.

This demo will be a short but, I hope, vibrant one. You'll be able to play with three of our classes: Poisoner, Warlock, and, of course, the best one there is (clearly I'm not at all biased), the Veil Knight. Each one has its own tutorial specially designed to tell its story in a unique way. No spoilers; you'll just have to find out for yourself.

You'll be able to try out the human race as well, and play through it's starting zone, the tiny village of Clodden set in the eastern fringes of Sarvenkor. Something strange has befallen this little idyllic town, and you'll need to figure out what that is.

all of this is to find your way onto the beautiful jungle island of... well that's up to you. I mentioned before that someone would be able to win this island for a future player house, a unique one available to only a few, and that's where you come in.

You have the chance to create a part of Kirandur that will actually make it into the lore. This house that you've made your own, and the island it's built upon, will become cannon, within reason, and so it's up to you to tell me where this island is and why you settled there. I'll have more rules for that in a separate post leading up to launch day, but for now, get your brain turning. If that's not really your speed, you'll be able to potentially win this house for yourself through gameplay. An old explorer, something of a braggart, is currently holding court on the island. He's built a maze he thinks nobody can beat. If you do, you could be one of the few who can call this place their private home. There are limited chances to win, though, so be fast and be smart. It's a dangerous maze, but perhaps the paradise is worth it.

Finally, you'll need to sign up for a TKP account to try the demo. We'll have instructions for how to do all of that at the bottom of this post. I'd of course like to thank ByteBender for setting up our beautiful account system, and Athlon for our Patreon integration. Seriously, I really do have the best team.

Now, with all of that out in the open, that's all I have for you today. Read the information below and get yourself ready for Kirandur! If you have any other questions, contact us on our discord Or by any other means available to you by checking our contact page: Contact

Thank you all, again, for being here, and I look forward to seeing you in Kirandur soon. Until then, may all the gods bless you, may your soul remain unchained, and, for the gods' sake, smile! Your world is coming soon.

Creating your TKP account

To play games made by and affiliated with The Kuloran Players (TKP), you'll create an account that lets you log into all of them. This account is bound either to your email address or to your Google account, so it will travel with you across devices.

If you elect to create an account with your email and password, you must verify your email. Make sure you check your spam folder! If you still don't see it, you will have to link your account with Google.

the Client

The client download link will be available on Tuesday, August 18. We have both Windows and mac client options. The client comes as a zip or .dmg file and is completely portable, though user data is stored in your user's app data folder.

After extracting the client, run Kirandur.exe, and choose log in to connect to the server. You should first be asked to link your TKP account to the game, and here is where you can create your TKP account as well.

If you log in before the game goes live to the public, you will be sent to a Patreon page to link your Patreon account to your game account. If you are a paying member of our Patreon, you'll be able to get in during the early access period. If you are not a patron or you are setting up before early access, you will be told how long to wait until the game will be available to you.

Once you are in, you will see the account screen where you can create new characters or manage existing ones. You can navigate screens in Kirandur using standard Windows dialog navigation commands, though the screens do not show visually.

Speaking of visuals, we have included a block-based graphics display for low vision users. It comes enabled by default, but you can disable it from the options menu under the navigation category. Block graphics do make the computer work harder, so you can disable them to save your CPU a bit. We are also aware that block graphics go through NVDA's screen curtain. Don't get caught playing Kirandur at school or work!

We'd love it if you share Kirandur with your friends. Live streams, social media posts, whatever you can do to hype up the game, are all highly encouraged!

Things to Remember and Rules to Follow

  • This is not at all a full release of the game. Expect mechanics, sounds and other content to be different upon release as we build content and balance classes around it.
  • You will probably find bugs or inconsistencies. If you find something that doesn't break the game, use the /feedback command to enter a feedback interface to report it to us or see if other people have, so you can upvote it. If you find something that breaks the game, let us know right away via Discord and we'll see if we can apply a fix. This might mean the server goes down if we need to fix something at the server level. We will only be fixing bugs; we will not be implementing new features. If the server is down for an extended period, we'll extend the up time.
  • Don't expect to keep your progress. When you play the game for real, we will start from a fresh live server. Any progress you make on the demo will go away after the demo period is over. And if you do something intentional to lose data, such as deleting your character, we do not have enough time to bring it back. We'll do our best to keep your data, but unexpected bugs could lead to data loss. If there is a mass data loss event, we can restore the database from a backup, though that backup may be several hours old. Let's hope that doesn't happen though.
  • Treat other people well. We do have moderation features, and people can selectively mute or block direct messages from other people. Don't make us or them use those features! Note: all messages sent on Kirandur are logged. Administration will not read them unless an investigation needs to happen, and a week is probably not long enough that someone can get into so much mischief that they need to be investigated, but we want to be fully transparent.
  • Try not to spoil the story for other people. We will have a spoilers channel open for you to discuss spoilers if you would like. To reach it, you should be able to tab to your character sheet and select communications for the communications interface. Then, press enter on spoilers, then activate the connect button.
  • You can create up to 5 characters. There is not much point in doing this since there are fewer than 5 classes you can play, but you may want to redo the tutorial experience for a class if you feel like you missed something. If you want to delete a character, find it on your account screen and press the delete key. Deleting a character will destroy all items and equipment it owns.
  • If you want to see what chat commands are available, press \ to open the chat and then enter /help.
  • We will take the live server down after the demo period is up. We have built in security to prevent you from connecting to the testing server, so don't try to cheat the client to get into the testing server. Your TKP account may lose access to Kirandur if you're caught.
  • Have fun, enjoy the game, and take your time to soak in the beautiful maps and soundscapes! We're excited to hear about what you noticed and enjoyed so we can continue to make more of the same for you.

Only 12 or 14 days to go!
