On AI and Kirandur
On AI and Kirandur
Hello, friends. This is Sir Howard, The CritterPup, creator of Kirandur, speaking on behalf of the Kuloran Players. Kirandur has been a passion project of mine for years now. I've put all my love for the genre into this world I've created, using my influences and inspirations to put my spin on a very classic genre, and I think I've done well at that. I've always believed in creativity through genuine passion, not obligation or pressure. The latter, unfortunately, is what I'm seeing much more of, and what I'm here to talk to you about today.
Creativity is dying. Perhaps that's a reactionary take, but I don't think it's an incorrect one. With the onset of ChatGPT, Suno, 11 Labs, and so on, those who have had trouble finding their creative voice before now have one... but unfortunately that voice is about as expressive as a plastic bag. In fact, some use this opportunity to steal from the voices of others, mimicking styles that are not, and never will be, their own. They don't want to learn a new skill, they want to stand on the shoulders of those who did.
To avoid getting too preachy though, I'll move on. The Kuloran Players all believe in using our own talents for creativity. We will not be using Generative AI anywhere in our creative assets. This means no AI generated writing, sound design, voice acting, music, etc. AI may be used to assist in small-stakes coding and scripting, though never with anything sensitive or major. We will also never use generative AI for communications of any kind, be they blog posts, email or social media correspondence, bug report response and troubleshooting, etc. We may have automated systems in place to confirm replies, but this is not AI generated in any way.
The Kuloran Players, Kirandur, and any other games we may put out in the future will always be held to this standard. It may take us longer; it may be a bit more expensive on our end. But at the end of the day, you know you're getting genuine, human made creations with soul and integrity. We're not stealing from anyone. We're doing it ourselves. That is our way. Thank you for listening.
