Playable Races Revealed!
Oh, The People You'll Know
Kirandur is, as you know, full of magic, mystery, and, in certain places, danger and fear. Who would be brave enough to live there? Who would be, perhaps, stupid enough, depending on who you ask?
Today, I'm going to share some of those races with you. All six of these races will be playable on launch, and each brings something different to the feast. I won't be sharing mechanical differences with you today, just the options themselves. This is, in a way, our unofficial kick-off to various reveals about the game, what you can be in it, and what you can do, culminating in classes later this year.
But enough prattling, let's get on with it!
Human
Ahh, humans. The old faithful. Dependable, sturdy humans. Or at least most of them. They're pretty run-of-the-mill. They're the most common race on Kirandur, the most widespread, and the best represented. They may not be the fastest or the strongest, but they can hold their own in a world like Kirandur, so perhaps they've got some strength to them.
Elf
Elves are the ethereal beings of the forest. They're quick and quiet when they want to be, though some have ranged far and wide, being more as humans than elves. On Klagrond, they make their main homes in Oakanrel, Pinecrest or Frisa Streyis, but they can be found almost anywhere. Even though they are relatively common, they are still beautiful, and they hold great mysteries you may just have to discover for yourself. They excel at speed and agility, and their skill with bowcraft is legend. Some are aloof, but most are friendly and willing to share and learn new information.
Dwarf
Dwarves are the stout miners and warriors that have sculpted Kirandur's underground for millennia. They mainly make their homes in the Stormshatter Mountains, though many are also known to run booming lumber companies in Sarvenkor and along the eastern coast. They are the shoulders Kirandur was built upon... and some will never, ever let you forget it. They are known for their strength and resilience, and most of them are drinking or drunk at all times.
Orc
A reclusive people, these beings are the druids of Klagrond. They spend much of their lives in the garden, on the farm, or hunting in the forests covering the slopes of the Stormshatter Mountains. Some can be aggressive and boisterous. Most are content to live and work on their farms or at the Stormhold, their ancestral keep. Most don't go south of the Holdurin Plains, but a few brave hunters and grove tenders will be found in Quor Zanin. They excel in strength and, surprisingly, stealth, master trackers and deadly in any brawl. If they choose to be.
Lionfolk
Noble, lion-like humanoids, these beings are native to Quor Zanin and make their villages along the Shoviaad River. They are a proud type, striking fast and hard, and much of their culture revolves around slaying the mighty river dragons that prowl the depths of the Shoviaad. They are a people who exemplify glory in battle over all, and can sometimes take that to boisterous extremes. Most are not inherently evil, though some can let the bloodlust bring them to acts of atrocity. They are fast and strong, but, especially when the bloodlust takes over, not particularly wise in their actions. They hold a long-standing, uneasy trade agreement with the lizardfolk, but more often than not are at odds with them, the tension promising blows at one wrong move.
Lizardfolk
Much like the lionfolk, the lizardfolk live along the Shoviaad in Quor Zanin, building their villages and tribal camps along its shores. They, however, seek to honor the river dragons, bestowing prayer upon them, almost worshipping them. Where the lionfolk use the river dragon bones to create weapons and armor to protect themselves from the attacks, the lizardfolk harvest the bones and scales to create art, clothes, and even dishware, so that the river dragons may still provide for them in death. The lizardfolk are a more philosophical people. They have the capability to fight, and their warriors can be fearsome, but they are more inclined to think. They are intelligent, far from barbaric, and sturdy to the dangers of the jungle they call home. Many older lizardfolk hold a hatred for the lionfolk, but some of the younger seek to repair the rift. Though both sides know that their cultures simply cannot co-exist that way.
The Story Pauses
